Quantum Advantage in Cryptography

چکیده
Ever since its inception, cryptography has been caught in a vicious circle: Cryptographers keep inventing methods to hide information, and cryptanalysts break them, prompting cryptographers invent even more sophisticated encryption schemes, so on. But could it be that quantum information technology breaks this circle? At first sight, looks as if just lifts the competition between next level. Indeed, computers will render most of today's public key cryptosystems insecure. Nonetheless, there are good reasons believe ultimately prevail over cryptanalysts. Quantum allows us build communication schemes whose secrecy relies only on laws physics some minimum assumptions about cryptographic hardware - leaving basically no room for an attack. While we not yet there, article provides overview principles state art cryptography, well assessment current challenges prospects overcoming them.

This is a chapter on quantum cryptography for the book “A Multidisciplinary Introduction to Information Security” to be published by CRC Press in 2011/2012. The chapter aims to introduce the topic to undergraduate-level and continuing-education students specializing in information and communication technology.
متن کاملComposability in quantum cryptography
If we combine two secure cryptographic systems, is the resulting system still secure? Answering this question is highly nontrivial and has recently sparked a considerable research effort, in particular, in the area of classical cryptography. A central insight was that the answer to the question is yes, but only within a well-specified composability framework and for carefully chosen security de...
متن کاملQuantum Cryptography
Quantum Cryptography was born in the early seventies when Stephen Wiesner wrote “Conjugate Coding”, which unfortunately took more than ten years to see the light of print [50]. In the mean time, Charles H. Bennett (who knew of Wiesner’s idea) and Gilles Brassard picked up the subject and brought it to fruition in a series of papers that culminated with the demonstration of an experimental proto...
متن کاملQuantum Cryptography
Quantum cryptography is a new method for secret communications offering the ultimate security assurance of the inviolability of a Law of Nature. In this paper we shall describe the theory of quantum cryptography, its potential relevance and the development of a prototype system at Los Alamos, which utilises the phenomenon of single-photon interference to perform quantum cryptography over an opt...
